I forwarded your article to my fig loving friend who has been asking me to keep at eye out at the local stores for fresh figs for the last month.

Now she wants to visit Bulgaria....

Very glad to hear it! She is very welcome to visit and sample the local produce. There's a special charm in eating fruit straight from the tree.

Meanwhile, I just saw a local supermarket offers fresh figs at the price of about 70 eurocents per piece. Which is a lot. When you have an abundance of figs 15 km away and could just send someone to pick some. But these are probably Turkish or Greek because why not. The fruit market here is outrageous.

I’m very envious. I have two figs trees but for the last few years they have not become plump and juicy.

Have you researched possible reasons? Could they be lacking in some nutrient or other?

I have to some extent, without success thus far. The tree itself is very healthy. We have a nearby reserve that is full of fig, and these ones are not tended at all and they seem to thrive. So neglect might be my next option

Sounds like a good idea. If nothing else works, why not try that? No one tends the figs along the road here and they're always full of delicious fruit, every single year. We don't tend ours beyond cutting off the dry branches.
